Joint Education classes are held every Thursday at 1 pm and outline expectations for total hip and knee procedures. These classes offer suggestions for preparing the home prior to surgery, a guide and process flow throughout hospitalization, and criteria necessary for discharge. Additionally, we prepare you with the tools needed for a successful recovery by teaching preventative tactics such as exercises prior to surgery, incentive spirometry, and healthful eating habits. Lastly, we provide education on the signs and symptoms of potential surgery complications.
The classes are conducted by bedside staff members, physical therapy, and case management. This interdisciplinary approach allows the patients ample opportunity to voice concerns, gain confidence, and meet members of the recovery team. Our patients who have participated in Joint Success Training have decreased chance for readmission and a decreased recovery rate.
