When a wound from an accident, disease or infection isn’t healing properly, proper wound care can save life and limb.
Five million Americans will suffer from chronic wounds this year, with circulation problems and diabetes being the most common culprits of these injuries. Because of the remarkable need for wound care treatment, Sumner Regional Medical Center opened an entire department to address this necessity.
While wound care is a relatively new field of medicine, it is a much-needed program that is quickly gaining ground. SRMC's program has seen patients come for treatment from as far away as Cookeville and Ashland City. Dr. Brandon Mewbourne, general surgeon, serves as medical director of the program.
