Mary Jo Lewis Recognized for Outstanding Leadership in Healthcare
Mary Jo Lewis, CEO of HighPoint Health System, a four-hospital system headquartered in Gallatin, Tenn., has been named to Becker’s Health Review’s list of “50 Women Hospital & Healthcare Leaders.”
The list, published in November, includes a list of “50 women who demonstrate outstanding leadership within the hospital and healthcare industry,” according to the editors of the bimonthly publication that provides business and legal news and analysis relating to hospitals and health systems.
Lewis became CEO of the health system in September 2010 upon closing of the sales transaction between Sumner Regional Health Systems, Inc., and LifePoint Hospitals®, when the health system was renamed HighPoint Health System.
“Mary Jo is an outstanding leader who has achieved many significant accomplishments during her career as a hospital CEO,” said Jeff Seraphine, Chief Operating Officer of the Delta Division of LifePoint Hospitals. “Mary Jo’s recognition by Becker’s Health Review as one of the top ‘50 Women Hospital & Healthcare Leaders’ is fitting and well deserved. We are fortunate to have her leading our hospitals at HighPoint Health System.”
Prior to joining HighPoint, Lewis served as CEO of Jackson Purchase Medical Center (JPMC), a 107-bed acute care hospital in Mayfield, Ky., also affiliated with LifePoint Hospitals®. Under Lewis’ leadership, the facility achieved remarkable success. In 2003, JPMC received LifePoint’s High Five Award for reaching the highest level of operational excellence in the company. Because of Lewis’s focus on quality care and patient service during her tenure, JPMC was consistently a top performer among LifePoint’s hospitals in achieving high levels of patient satisfaction.
In 2009, JPMC was recognized as one of the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® based on its outstanding overall organizational performance. This prestigious award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction, financial performance, and operational efficiency. Also, in both 2009 and 2010, JPMC was named one of the “100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare magazine, a national award that recognizes healthcare organizations that have achieved workplace excellence.
